Eyjafjallajokull?
I have been trying for weeks to pronounce the name of the volcano that erupted in Iceland. Anyone got it? The Icelandic embassy can help us. They say it's AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul. I’ll take their word for it. This supposed medium size eruption has created all sorts of havoc around the globe. A recent news flash explained it best.
As ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano continued to keep European airspace shut down over the weekend, affecting millions of travelers around the world, some government agencies and airlines clashed over the flight bans. .The volcano continues to rumble and hurl ash skyward, if at a slightly diminished rate now, as the dispersing ash plume has dropped closer to the ground, and the World Health Organization has issued a health warning to Europeans with respiratory conditions.
A few weeks ago I didn’t know that this volcano existed, now it’s closing down the air space over Europe and sending many countries indoors to avoid possible lung problems. As I thought of the chaos from this event, I thought again of how little control we really have over our lives. Many times we depend on ourselves and our great wisdom to figure out our current lives and the future.
We get so proud of the way we plan each day. Many times forgetting that it is God (I own the cattle on a thousand hills. Psalm 50:10) who is in control. The Psalmist shares, "For the Lord is a great God; the great king above all gods. He owns the depths of the earth, and even the mightiest mountains are his. The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. Psalm 95
My question for each of us is: Who is in control of your life? If asked, would you answer; my wisdom, my money, my abilities, my health. Or would you answer, On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
The Icelandic eruption is only one of many possible chaotic events that could come into your life at a moment’s notice. Won’t you make the decision to let Christ be the rock of your life? Let him be the sure foundation.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
