What a great coat! It looks good, fit's right and the colors let everyone know how important I am to you. Thanks, Dad.
That phrase could have been spoken by the young man Joseph. Yes, Joseph the young son of Jacob who started out as the favorite son and then spent his adult life going from slave to leader to prisoner then back to leader. It's an amazing story with many twists and turns, full of life lessons for each one of us.
It is with great excitement that I am going to preach our summer series on the story of Joseph. Each week (except when I am away) we will be digging into the life of this great patriarch, trying to understand the faith and principles he lived by. We will also see God in action in the midst of great trials in his life. Romans 8:28 is reflected time and time again in his life. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." You might be in a hard situation today, but God can help you through it and redeem it for his purpose.
Gene A. Getz, in his book on Joseph, shared two principles that we will highlight over the weeks.
- God specializes in changing us and conforming us into His image, no matter what our family background.
- God understands our particular circumstances and He wants to help us rise above the negative influences in our lives.
Take some time in the next weeks to read Genesis 37-50, to remind yourself of the details of the story. I pray that God will give new insights in your life during this series.
I also hope that many of you will join us during the special family events of the summer.
The June - July calendar has wonderful opportunities to grow together.
Starting Wednesday, June 3rd, we are going to hold our Adult Bible Study from 6:30 to 7:30. We will begin an in-depth study of the book of Exodus. I hope many of you will come for this summer study. We will meet in the former sanctuary. If you have need for nursery, please contact the church office.
Have a great Summer!
