I Did It My Way?
The reality of our world today seems to dictate that we are to be independent yet be like everybody else. The call to do it our way (whatever it is), but with understanding that we do not want to stand out and be seen as different. These ideas have most people running in circles both in their minds and in their behavior. It can feel like living on a merry-go-round wondering if you can ever get off. If you are feeling a little dizzy today I have hope for you.
This summer I have been sharing a series of messages on the Ten Commandments. What has struck me is that God has given to us an incredible love letter in the passage of Exodus 20. He has given to us, as He gave to the Hebrews in the desert, a wonderful glimpse at the awesome wisdom of God. He did not give it to them to keep all of the fun for himself, but to give us Godly limits and direction that will enhance our lives. He has given us a design, a pattern, a command that if followed will give us the best life possible. But as we follow Gods wisdom we will not mess up our lives through ungodly decisions and sin.
The commandments cover the whole spectrum of our relationships with God, family, and neighbors. As you seek to live, do not make life so complicated by disregarding the will and wisdom of God. He loves you so much, that He has given us in the Bible, His operating instructions. As you give your life to Christ and rely on the power of the Holy Spirit daily, you can say yes to following God?s will for your life. Even with the pressures of the world pushing you another way, you can stand tall and strong and say that you are doing it His way.
- Do not have any other gods before me. I an the one true God.
- Do not make any idols out of my creation, they do not give life.
- In your life and words, do not take the name of the Lord in vain.
- Remember the sabbath and keep it holy. God knows you need the rest.
- Honor your Father and your Mother throughout your life.
- You shall not murder, honor all life and do not hate.
- You shall not commit adultery. Hold true to your wedding vows both in your heart and life.
- You shall not steal. Trust God to meet your needs.
- You shall not bear false witness against your brother, only speak the truth with love.
- You shall not covet. Learn the art of contentment.
Have a great month living Gods way!
