September 2009
Get Involved!
Remember the first meeting of all the students in your school. For some of you will be as soon as next week . But for others, let us just say it was a long time ago. The scene is easy to remember. Every one would slowly make their way to the freshly polished and painted gym to sit on those comfortable bleachers by class. Freshman to the right, then sophomores, Juniors and of course the mighty Seniors. After the mike squealed a few times to wake us up. The Principal would begin his talk something like this, "We welcome you students to another year. We are so excited to have you back again. I'm sure you are excited as well.(applause) There is just one thing you need to remember, (we knew it was coming) What you get out of this year has a lot to do with what you put into it. So I encourage you to get involved to expand your horizons, serve others and grow as a person." Then he may go over a few rules describing what not to get involved in to avoid visiting his office this year .
But school speeches and beginnings only one of the new beginnings that mark the fall for all of us. A similar speech could be given at the Community Covenant as we start off the new fall quarter. It is exciting to look at the opportunities for ministry and study this fall. With Sunday School , J- Team, Confirmation, Youth work and Bible studies getting underway this month there are exciting opportunities to get involved in for personal service and growth. In Hebrews 10:25, the author writes "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching." This September we are going to work together and be challenged by the theme "Living Beyond Myself ". It is going to be a time to think about your purpose in ministry. I hope you will ask about where you would like to use your gifts in God's work. There are many exciting possibilities that will truly expand the kingdom of God. If you are not sure, make sure you check in and find out where the needs are and sign up. It's going to be an amazing year.
In Christ's love,
