“Gratitude”

This has been a tough fall for many people. Even with the coming election that brings anticipation, the economy has filled many with fear and uncertainty. What challenges me is the fact that in times of hardship the call to live strong, faithful and generous lives is even more pronounced. As believers in Jesus Christ we are called to jump into action at the first sign of trouble. Our faith drives us to share when we have nothing to share, to serve when we have no strength and hope when all seems lost. As the great hymn of the faith says "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand." So in these difficult days let's take our cue from the churches of Macedonia. Paul shares the exciting story in 2 Corinthians 8.

"And now brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints."

You may be called on to help meet a need in your neighborhood or to help someone who you don't even know. It will be exciting to see what God will do through each one of us as we share with thankful hearts. Let gratitude to God overflow in every area of your life.
