COVENANT WOMEN

CW will be putting together and delivering Thanksgiving baskets again this fall. Maybe you know a family or an individual that needs a lift, needs to know that others care, or maybe you know a family that is in need. Give the name to Pastor Craig or Nathan and a basket of food will be delivered to them from Community Covenant this Thanksgiving. The average basket costs $30-$40; donations toward the project can be given in the weekly offering marked for CW Thanksgiving baskets. Baskets will be delivered the week of November 16.

Mark your calendars and invite your friends for the annual Christmas women’s banquet Thursday, December 3. Our theme, "Coming Home for Christmas," will be carried out with Christmas cookie jars, cookie cutters and a variety of Christmas decorations. If you have a cookie jar or cutters you can share, plan to bring it the week of the event. Invite friends to hear our speaker, Janet Letnes Martin! Janet is the author of the Lutheran Church Basement Women musical comedies and 16 more humorous books describing her Norwegian Lutheran rural background. You don’t want to miss this event and the supper is always great, too.

We will also use the decorations for the 2nd annual Christmas Cookie Care-O-Sell planned for Saturday, December 12. CW has received a Thrivent grant for this event which will match our profits up to $500!! Funds raised will be used to help the Wednesday night meals and to stock the kitchen with more serving utensils. Plan to invest some of your time baking cookies in the church kitchen the week before Dec. 12. A list of cookies will be posted so families can sign up to bake the cookies and bring them the day before the sale. We will also need donated the usual types of things -- nuts, chocolate chips, oil, sprinkles, flavorings and HELP! We have a lot of fun and it’s a great cause!

During the week of the cookie sale baking, we will also pack boxes for those in our church community who are shut in, in the military, or serving away from home. If you know of someone who should be on the list, contact Linda Pepin or Wanda Erickson. Consider helping deliver the boxes as it is a rewarding experience.

CW CHRISTMAS BANQUET
THURSDAY DEC. 3, 2009

5:30 - 6 p.m. Social Time
6 - 7 p.m. Supper
7 - 8 p.m. Janet Letnes Martin

Invite your friends and neighbors to hear nationally known Janet Letnes Martin! Janet believes and promotes the healing gifts of humor and laughter. The mother of three daughters, she is now trying to perfect her role as a non-interfering mother-in-law and grandmother.

Janet Martin's programs are nostalgic in nature, telling the way it was in the 40's and 50's - growing up with churches on every corner and Jell-O in the church basements. Janet even judges Jell-O contests!  No matter the denomination, Janet believes in honoring all the women who kept so many churches going because of their tireless work in the kitchens and church basements.

When Janet speaks to rural organizations, she zeroes in on growing up rural and such things as hollering at your friends through culverts and going to town on Saturday night.

Janet Letnes Martin, a native of Hillsboro, ND lives in Hastings, MN. A graduate of Augsburg College, she began writing books in 1983. She has authored/co-authored and created 14 books, two audio tapes and various novelty products and calls herself a "Norwegian-Lutheran Farm Girl Humorist". Janet often teams up with her co-author Suzann Nelson to perform a comedy routine billed as Those Lutheran Ladies. In 1998, Suzann and Janet received the Minnesota Book Award for Humor for Growing Up Lutheran and in 2006, they were awarded Metro Lutheran's Gold Pen Award by Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
