Welcome to the
Yonassan Gershom Website

Yes, I wrote two books about cases of reincarnation from the Holocaust, but that's not all I do -- so please read on...

I also invite you to view online (for free) the excellent 2008 documentary film, A Sacred Duty: Applying Jewish Values to heal the World, produced by Jewish Vegetarians of North America.  I appear in the film, but that's not the only reason to watch it.  If you care about the earth, you should see it.  The link here goes to the film homepage, where you can read more about it and watch it on YouTube.

Tree of life and rainbow tallis design49Gates of Light is back in print!

You have been asking for it, so here it is!   My seven-week Kabbalah course, based on the Tree of Life and "counting the Omer," is now available as both a full-color trade paperback and a PDF download from Lulu.com.  This newly-revised 4th edition contains all the same lessons from the old Kinko's photocopy version I did back in 1987, but is much, much nicer.

Here’s how it works:  Each day, you will explore one of the 49 “flavors” of consciousness with a specific Hebrew mantra to open the Heart based on the daily Sefirah combination (spelled out in English letters), a story or teaching to study to develop the Mind, and something active for you to do on the path of Action.  The 49 lessons are co-coordinated to the “Omer” period on the Jewish calendar, which is the seven weeks between Passover and Shavuot (Feast of Weeks.)  However, you can also do this program anytime as a set of personal lessons.

The Tree diagrams and lesson pages are color-coded to match the rainbow pattern on the B'nai Or tallis (prayer shawl) designed by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, as well as the Seven Days of Creation and other kabbalistic themes.  Each week focuses on one of the Seven Lower sefirot (levels) on the Tree diagram. Jewish Star Trek!

Jewish Star Trek book cover M long-awaited book, Jewish Themes in Star Trek: Where no rabbi has gone before, which I am dedicating to the memory of Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut, and his six brave crewmates, who perished aboard the space shuttle Columbia in 2003 (may they all rest in peace).   The book is now available in hardcover, paperback and download directly from my Lulu Press storefront.  The paperback version is also available on Amazon.com if you prefer to order it there instead.

For more on Judaism and Star Trek, visit my other website, TrekJews.com.  There you will also find a link to my 2009 essay on the new Star Trek movie.  There's an interesting parallel with Jewish history -- but BEWARE -- it has SPOILERS!

My Jewish nonviolence book:

Eight Candles of Consciousness:  Essays on Jewish nonviolence is also in print now.  This is a collection of my best articles, poems, essays, protest stories,  and memories from 40 years of peace activism. Includes my nonviolent Hanukkah service, "Eight Candles of Consciousness"; my anti-Kahane protest actions in the 1980s; essays on ecology and Judaism; why I support gay rights; how I became a vegetarian.  Basically a retrospective, with some new material also.  You can get it in paperback or download at my Lulu Press storefront.  The paperback version is also available on Amazon.com if you prefer to order it there instead.

Authentic Jewish reincarnation stories!

Yes, Jews can believe in reincarnation. My previous book, Jewish Tales of Reincarnation, was a Main Selection for the Jewish Book Club in 2000, so you know this isn't "lunatic fringe" stuff. It's mainstream Hasidism! Now you can read 70 authentic Jewish stories about reincarnation from both classical and traditional sources, all collected in one place! (More info...)

What's new on this site??

My personal activities and some photos...

Hasidism.info -- my user-friendly FAQ on Hasidism: Hasidism is the form of Judaism that I practice -- and one of the forms which believes in reincarnation. If you've seen me at conferences and wondered why I wear my hair and beard like that, what the beanie is for, or why I have little strings hanging outside my pants, then this page is the place to go. For links to more Jewish FAQS, go to my Jewish FAQ menu.

The Reincarnation and the Holocaust FAQ: Yes, I am the author of Beyond the Ashes and From Ashes to Healing, two books on cases of reincarnation from the Holocaust period. Please read this FAQ first before e-mailing me your theories, questions, channellings, millennial revelations, missionary tracts or (heaven forbid!) nasty flames about "the true karma" of the Jews, etc. And before calling me out of the blue for "readings" etc., please read my contact info page first.

The Judaism 101 website: Please go here first before emailing me with that burning question "you always wanted to ask a Jew." This extensive FAQ site by Tracy Rich is well-written and user-friendly. If you don't find the answer there, then try my Jewish Link Launcher for more links to sites where you can find answers to questions about Jews, as well as Jewish shareware and freeware, etc.

Or, if you prefer to sit back in your easy chair with a physical book, I recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Judaism, which, of course, is not really for idiots! It's uses the familiar "Idiot's" series format to explain the basics of Jewish beliefs, rituals, holidays, what happens in a synagogue service, what a kosher kitchen is, etc. (More basic Judaism books...)

Which brings us to...

[bookend]

Where to get my books -- and other great titles, too!

Be sure to visit my online store, Gershom's Book Shop, where you can buy all of my books, as well as many other titles that I recommend.  In addition, throughout this website, wherever a book, tape, video, or CD is mentioned in the discussion, there's a link to that title on Amazon.com, where you can read the customer reviews (including mine -- Click here to find them all in one place.) Not only is this convenient for you, but purchases made through these links earn me a commission to help keep the website up and running, so I can continue to give you access to all my online info for free. Such a deal!

[ROOSTER LOGO]Plus, check out my eBay store, The Happy Rooster  (I'm "rooster613" over there.  Rooster? Why Rooster?) This is where I sell the thinnings from my personal library, review copies of new books that publishers send me (some of them signed!), autographed copies of my own works, conference memorabilia, cruelty-free feathers, wildflower seeds, ebooks and other great goodies.   Bookmark the page and check it often for new listings.

And last but not least, visit my lulu.com homepage for my self-published works and upcoming projects, as well as future reprints of things I wrote that are currently out of print.

And now about my other life....

[BARN]

As I explained in my second book, From Ashes to Healing, I am moving on to other projects besides reincarnation counseling work (I never was a therapist to begin with and frankly, I got tired of not getting paid for my work.   I need to eat like everyone else....)  Although I do still write on that topic occasionally because of the books and popular demand, in my own life I have many other interests as well. Go to my personal page to find out what I'm doing lately...
